What to do in Lisbon in 3 Days

Lisbon never sleeps! You can find an open bar or shop at any time, day or night, which will welcome you in with open arms. The vast number of monuments and attractions to discover makes for a fantastic short break in Portugal’s finest city. Not sure where to start? Roomlala has prepared a quick itinerary for any traveller who wants to make the best of what is on offer in the Portuguese capital.

Day 1: the mythical district of Alfama

If you want to dive straight into the local culture, get yourself to the Alfama via the famous tram 28 – a highlight for many visitors! The Alfama quarter is the birthplace of fado, Portugal’s much celebrated music style: you will find enough places to get acquainted with it if you’re a fan! Take a stroll around this historic region of the city to truly appreciate the richly coloured architecture. From there, head to the Castelo de Sao Jorge for a relaxing wander around the gardens. For the evening, turn to the Baixa quarter or the river Tagus, and benefit from the cafes and the breathtaking views.

Day 2: Rossio & Belém

We highly recommend a second day spent in the Rossio district, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Take the opportunity to visit the Santa Justa lift, which will allow you to view the whole city from a stunning vantage point. In the afternoon, head to Belém by train. This district on the fringe of the city hides two wonders – the famous Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, an ancient monastery, and the tower of Belém which dominates the horizon. Not to mention, the region is home to the best pastéis in the city.

Day 3: relax in Lisbon

Whether you spent the evening relaxing or making your way round the city’s bars, start your third day with a visit to the Mercado de Ribiera, an enormous indoor market in a giant hall, where renowned chefs offer superb quality food at affordable prices. To round off your day, head to the Botanical Gardens. Lisbon is a city best discovered on foot, and the Bairro Alto area is not to be missed – a traditional working class area that has historically been the haunt of creatives and bohemians.

Where should you stay in Lisbon?

Lisbon is one of the most welcoming and dynamic cities in Europe, and any tourist will find out just how exciting it is. Faced with such passion and vivacity, choosing somewhere to stay for a reasonable price can be tricky.
